“We look forward to working again with Enel on another project in Kansas,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. “Enel is one of the world’s most experienced developers of wind-power projects, and they selected the ideal turbine for this project.”
Vestas’ Colorado-based factories will be involved in manufacturing the blades and towers, as well as nacelle and hub assembly, for the Caney River project, which will be the third-largest wind farm in Kansas. This project will provide direct and indirect economic benefits to Elk County in terms of long-term jobs and property-tax revenues generated from the turbines.
Vestas and Enel previously teamed up on the first phase of the Smoky Hills wind-energy project near Salina, Kansas, which was completed in 2008 using 56 V80-1.8 MW wind turbines. Enel also purchased Vestas turbines for a 63 MW project near Snyder, Texas, which was also commissioned in 2008. Vestas has 326 of its industry-leading wind turbines in Kansas at four sites throughout the state.
Vestas is the world leader in supplying high-tech wind power systems, and the preferred provider of wind turbines, services and solutions in North America. Since 1979, Vestas has supplied more than 43,000 wind turbines in 66 countries. Vestas sold its first wind turbine in North America in 1981 and since has supplied more than 11,000 turbines to the United States and more than 1,000 to Canada.
The company’s North American manufacturing operations are based in Colorado. This includes a blade factory in Windsor, a nacelle factory in Brighton and a tower factory – the world’s largest – in Pueblo. Vestas also has research and development offices in Texas, Massachusetts and Colorado. Vestas’ global headquarters is in Randers, Denmark.
