SAMTECH to present new SAMCEF for Wind Turbines release at EWEA 2011

SAMTECH, European specialist in development of Computer Aided Engineering software and advanced FEA modeling technology, announces its participation to the EWEA annual event 2011, Europe’s premier wind energy event (EWEA 2011), which will be held from the 14th to the 17th of March in Brussels, Belgium. SAMTECH will demonstrate to the wind energy community the power and user-friendliness of the latest release of its professional product for advanced dynamic analysis and certification of Wind Turbines (SAMCEF for Wind Turbines or S4WT) including new features dedicated to offshore wind turbine simulation.

With the increase of their size and the growing tendancy to place them offshore, wind turbines have been the subject of an intense race for innovation.

Simulation tools are increasingly following this trend. Understanding early that simulation must be a tool to assist engineering work, SAMTECH developed a solution to take simulation from wind turbine experts’ hands to engineers focusing on their design work. SAMCEF for Wind Turbines brings innovation to the various fields of wind turbine design.

SAMTECH will exhibit at the EWEA annual event 2011 and perform live demonstrations of the new release of SAMCEF for Wind Turbines and the specific capabilities for offshore applications.

To illustrate its expertise in both onshore and offshore simulation, SAMTECH will present two applications on 16th March 2011: “Fatigue damage computation of a composite material blade using a mixed non-linear FEM and Super Element approach” and “Numerical simulation of offshore wind turbines by a coupled aerodynamic, hydrodynamic and structural dynamic approach”.

EWEA annual event 2011 visitors, SAMTECH customers and partners will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the SAMTECH team (Stand 11204, Hall 11) and are also invited to attend a drinks reception on the SAMTECH booth, to be held on the March 15th from 12.00 am to 2.00 pm.

SAMCEF for Wind Turbines

40 years of experience in the modeling of large flexible machines and more than 10 years expertise in Wind Energy provide the foundation for S4WT, SAMTECH’s platform dedicated to Wind Turbine simulation. This expertise was built through partnerships with most of the major players in the Wind industry, including ALSTOM and REpower Systems AG.

S4WT can be used at different levels in the wind turbine engineering process which cover the computation of global design loads for certification, the evaluation of dynamics of complex flexible mechanisms using the Multi-Body Simulation capabilities of S4WT and finally the stress assessment of structural component design using the Finite Elements features of S4WT. The S4WT software package is delivered with pre-defined IEC-61400 design load cases and parameterized start up models which also include the most common gearbox based power train concepts, as well as advanced direct drive wind turbine models.

SAMTECH is a European leading provider of Computer Aided Engineering software. Founded in 1986, SAMTECH develops and markets the general-purpose Finite Element Analysis code SAMCEF, the Multi-Disciplinary Optimization platform BOSS quattro and the Open CAE Integration Framework CAESAM.
