RMT wins New Hampshire wind power project

Granite Reliable Power LLC, a partnership of Brookfield Renewable Power, Inc. (Brookfield) and Freshet Wind Energy, LLC (Freshet), have selected RMT, Inc. (RMT), a leading renewable energy engineering and construction company, to construct its Granite Reliable wind farm. RMT has commenced construction on the 99-MW project located in Coos County, New Hampshire.

“We are pleased to have started construction of the Granite Reliable wind farm. This project brings numerous benefits to the region, and it is important that it be built by a company with proven experience. RMT fits that bill, and we look forward to working together to safely construct this wind farm,” says Mr. Kim Osmars, Chief Operating Officer of Brookfield Renewable Power’s U.S. Operations.

RMT is providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the civil and electrical infrastructure, including the installation of 33 Vestas V90 3.0-MW wind turbines. The civil infrastructure includes roads, crane paths and pads, and turbine foundations. The electrical infrastructure includes a 34.5-kV overhead and underground collection system, a 5.8-mile 115-kV overhead power line, a substation, and interconnection to the Public Service of New Hampshire system. RMT is also responsible for tower erection and construction of a 5,000 SF operations and maintenance building.

“Brookfield Renewable Power is a recognized leader in the development and operation of renewable energy,” explains David Kutcher, RMT Chief Commercial Officer. ”Their portfolio includes over 165 hydroelectric generation facilities and some of Canada’s largest wind energy facilities. We look forward to teaming with this world-class organization on the construction of their first U.S. wind energy facility.”

Once completed, Granite Reliable will be the largest utility-scale wind facility in New Hampshire, and will have the capacity to power approximately 25,000 homes annually. The facility is expected to commence commercial operation by the end of the year.
