Community Wind Energy Plant in South Dakota

The wind farm, named Dakota Community Wind, is to be built in the Gregory and Tripp County areas of South Dakota, which has abundant wind resources.

South Dakota Wind Partners, a community investor group, is developing a wind turbines project in central South Dakota. The 10.5 MW wind farm is located adjacent to the 151.5 MW PrairieWinds wind farm owned by the Basin Electric Power Cooperative. PrairieWinds is to take care of the operation of the wind farm and also purchase the energy generated.

With a wind power capacity of 1222 MW the state of South Dakota ranks 11th in the country for highest installed capacity, according to the Windpower Monthly Windicator.
