Electric Power System Added to 2012 Buick Regal Hybrid

Buick released a new version of the 2012 Regal, which has a new gasoline and electric power system called eAssist. This new hybrid system boosts the car’s fuel economy by 25% when compared to the basic Regal. Fuel economy for the 2012 Regal Hybrid is expected to reach 26 miles per gallon in the city and 37 mpg highway.

Buick introduced eAssist last year on the LaCrosse. Using a lithium ion battery, an electric motor-generator and regenerative braking eAssist improves fuel economy tremendously. The new electric motor adds 15 more horsepower while using less gasoline.

Buick’s Regal with eAssist will be available to consumers sometime this fall. Buick is using the new Regal as a feature luxury car that has top-of-the-line fuel economy. The Regal line-up is being toted as a sportier luxury car that has plenty of power without the gas guzzling of a sports car.
