Winwind and Cursor to build 120 MW wind power plants in Finland

Cursor Oy and Winwind Ltd. have signed a cooperation agreement on wind energy cluster development in the Kotka-Hamina region in Finland. At the same time, Cursor, WinWinD and TuuliWatti Oy signed a Letter of Intent for developing wind farm projects in the region, a concrete example of which is a wind turbines project located in Virolahti municipality.

Kotka-Hamina region strengthens its position in the wind energy sector

Cursor Oy, a company developing the Kotka-Hamina region, and wind turbines manufacturer Winwind Ltd. have signed a cooperation agreement for developing wind energy cluster in the Kotka-Hamina region. The target of the agreement is to develop new wind farm plants in the area by the end of 2013 with a total of 40 installed wind turbines.

As a part of the agreement, the parties strive to get new companies to join the Kotka-Hamina region wind energy cluster and at the same time, create new jobs for the wind energy sector in Finland.

”The Kotka-Hamina region is a very important area for WinWinD. Located in Hamina, our wind turbine factory provides professional assembly of turbines, logistic advantages and better customer service in Finland and the neighbouring areas. Our 3 megawatt wind turbines can be optimized to suit local conditions both for inland low-wind-speed areas and onshore areas with stronger winds. When realized, this cooperation with Cursor would be a great opportunity for WinWinD to raise the utilization rate of the Hamina factory during the next three years”, states Guru Vijendran, Chief Operative Officer of WinWinD.

The Virolahti wind farm

As a development project of the cluster agreement, WinWinD, TuuliWatti Oy and Cursor have signed a Letter of Intent on development of wind farm projects. The agreement includes project development for 30 turbines in Cursor’s area of operation. The first concrete project to be realized is a wind farm in Virolahti, with the aim of installing six WinWinD turbines in the area. The project is targeted to be realized in 2012, and the wind turbines will be of the new WinWinD 3 type.
