Yemen and World Bank discuss Makha Wind Energy Farm Project

Deputy prime minister for economic affairs and minister for planning and international cooperation Abdul Karim al Arhabi met on Wednesday with a delegation from the World Bank in charge of evaluating the wind power farm project in Makha, Taiz.

The meeting reviewed arrangements for financing the project which will be built at $ 1250 million. The WB will provide $ 20 million out of the total sum, while the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development will provide $ 40 million, the Saudi Development Fund $ 20 million and the government will provide $ 10 million.

Al Arhabi stressed completing the wind farm which will be the first of its kind in the country. Yemen urgently needs such project to produce alternative energy within its drive to tackle power deficit through investing in clean alternative energy sources, he said.
