Gamesa to Construct a 50 MW Wind Energy Plant for Syria

The National Energy Research Center of Syria has chosen Gamesa for the wind power project from a group of five bidders. The 50 MW wind farm will be built south west of the central city of Homs with an investment of around 60-million Euros.

According to the statistics provided by the state owned Public Establishment for Electrical Generation and Transfer, the power supply demand of Syria was estimated at 44.5 billion kWh in 2009 and witnessed a clear increase of 5.9% when compared to the previous year. It generated around 43.3 billion kWh of power in 2009 and witnessed a raise of 5.6% from 2008.

The country also has engaged Vestas, a wind turbine manufacturing company, to formulate and install a wind power generation project with an installed capability of 50 MW to 100 MW in a place south of Damascus.
