AMSC to Deliver Wind Turbines Electrical Control Systems to South Korean Company

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC), a worldwide wind power technology company, declared that it has obtained an order worth over $10 million from South Korea based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company for the supply of wind turbine electrical control systems.

Doosan has planned to utilize the control systems in its 3 MW full conversion wind turbines to be deployed in onshore and offshore wind farm locations. AMSC will ship the control systems in the form of two consignments. The first consignment will be sent in the middle of the year 2011 and another during the middle of the year 2012. AMSC within a period of a year including that of Doosan has received seven bulk orders for the supply of wind turbine electrical control systems or related components.

According to Greg Yurek, AMSC’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Doosan is engaged in offshore wind power generation and in power for a number of years and AMSC will receive the benefit of the association. Also the rapid growth of offshore wind energy market in Asia will increase the demand for multi-megawatt type of wind power systems such as WinDS3000 manufactured by Doosan.
