Invenergy’s Le Plateau 2 Wind Power Project Selected for PPA

Invenergy Wind Canada ULC (‘Invenergy’) announced today that Hydro-Quebéc Distribution (‘Hydro-Quebéc’) has accepted Invenergy’s proposal to develop the 23 MW Le Plateau 2 wind farm in Quebéc to supply energy under a 20-year, renewable power purchase agreement. The wind farm will create jobs and contribute to the economic development of the host community in the MRC d’Avignon, while bringing clean, renewable energy to the people of Quebéc.

Le Plateau 2 is a wind farm collaboration between Invenergy and the Régie intermunicipale Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, a coalition representing MRC’s and municipalities comprising more than 90% of the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine administrative region. Approval for Le Plateau 2 comes after a process that began in April of 2009 with a call for tenders by Hydro-Quebéc.

This will be Invenergy’s second wind project in Quebec. The 138.6 MW Le Plateau Wind Energy Centre, which is scheduled for completion in 2011, also has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec. A final contract with Hydro-Quebéc for Le Plateau 2 is expected to be executed early next year, and then be submitted for approval by the provincial energy regulator, la Régie de l’énergie. Commercial operation of Le Plateau 2 is scheduled to begin by December of 2013.

‘We are proud to strengthen our commitment to Quebec with the opportunity to provide clean, renewable power from the Le Plateau 2 project,’ said Frits de Kiewit, Director of Business Development at Invenergy Wind Canada. ‘Invenergy also is pleased that Le Plateau 2 will bring significant economic benefits to our host community, and to the participating communities of the Régie.’

‘The Régie is delighted to work with Invenergy to contribute to the development of Quebec’s wind energy industry, and particularly to the development of our region’s economy,’ said Joël Arseneau, president of the Régie Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine. ‘We look forward to a strong, long-term partnership.’

Both Le Plateau and Le Plateau 2 will be connected to a 315 kV power transmission line of the Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie transmission grid at a substation located near the power line. Le Plateau 2 will consist of ten 2.3 MW ENERCON E-70 wind turbines. ENERCON Canada Inc. headquarters are located in Montreal, with a manufacturing facility in Matane.
