TXU Energy’s EV Accelerator ProgramSM helps customers like the City of McKinney ‘jump-start’ their adoption of EVs and associated charging stations. The city’s charging stations, slated to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2011, will be located in the McKinney Senior Recreation Center, the Roy and Helen Hall Library located downtown, and the office buildings for the Development Services and Public Works departments.
The City of McKinney is also working with TXU Energy to convert three existing city vehicles, Toyota Prius hybrids, into plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Our goal is to help customers embrace these benefits,” said Gabe Castro, vice president of business markets for TXU Energy. “The City of McKinney wants to incorporate electric vehicles and other energy-efficiency measures into their operations. We’re glad we were able to leverage our rebate program to customize this energy savings solution for the city and look forward to seeing it flourish in McKinney.”
Rebates totaling $150,000 are being provided to the City of McKinney to support EVs and other energy-efficiency improvements as part of the company’s broader Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. These rebates are included in a four-year contract the city recently signed with TXU Energy for electricity service. Of the overall contract, 10 percent is supplied by renewable sources.

Business customers interested in the Energy Efficiency Rebate Program must sign a minimum 12-month electricity service contract with TXU Energy and install proven energy-efficiency technologies, such as fluorescent fixture retrofits, LED exit signs, control system upgrades and high-efficiency HVACs. The EV Accelerator ProgramSM requires a 24-month electricity contract and enables customers to qualify for rebates by installing electric vehicle infrastructure, such as charging stations, and purchasing or converting to plug-in electric vehicles.
