Bureau Veritas to Serve as Chief Building for Abengoa Mojave Concentrating Solar Power Project

As DCBO, Bureau Veritas will be providing plan review and code inspection services for the design and construction of the solar thermal facility, which is scheduled to go into service in early 2013. Construction will begin by the end of 2010 on the 250 megawatt Concentrating Solar Power facility, which will supply electricity to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E).

"This Concentrating Solar Power project is a big step in moving California toward its goal of 4,300 additional megawatts of solar energy," said Kevin Wedman, Vice President of Power and Utilities, Bureau Veritas. "We are proud to be helping California meet its energy needs in a safe and environmentally- friendly manner."

The California Energy Commission selected Bureau Veritas to review and archive all plans and inspect the quality of work needed to meet the California requirement for construction. Bureau Veritas will provide assistance for the entire document review and control process, as well as provide an archive of all completed work that fulfilled technical requirements. In addition, the entire plan review service is being implemented electronically to minimize time, costs, and paper waste.

"This project will generate enough power for approximately 90,000 homes, and alleviate over 430 kilotons of greenhouse gas emissions annually," stated Pedro Guimaraes, CEO of Bureau Veritas North America, Inc. "We’re excited to not only participate in this forward-thinking project, but also to be able to provide services in a manner that is efficient for our client and beneficial to the environment."
