Solar Trust of America Names Steven J. Brewer Executive Vice President

Solar Trust of America, LLC, (SOLAR TRUST) an integrated industrial solar solutions company, announced today that U.S. utility industry veteran Steven J. Brewer has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for the leading developer of solar thermal power plants in the United States, effective immediately.

In his new position Brewer will also serve as Chief Executive Officer of Solar Trust of America Contracting LLC, SOLAR TRUST’s wholly owned Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) subsidiary, and will also serve as a member of the Management Board of Solar Trust of America. Brewer will report directly to Solar Trust of America Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Uwe T. Schmidt.

Brewer will be responsible for overseeing all of SOLAR TRUST’s and its subsidiaries’ EPC activities as well as for SOLAR TRUST’s Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activity. SOLAR TRUST’s U.S. development subsidiary, Solar Millennium, LLC, recently obtained final approval from the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to begin construction on its 1,000 MW Blythe Solar Power Project in California, which will be the world largest concentrating solar power facility.

With more than 20 years of large-scale utility industry experience, Brewer joins SOLAR TRUST from Omaha, Nebraska-based Tenaska Energy Inc., a leading power plant development, construction and operations company. Brewer most recently served as Project Director at Tenaska, leading an innovative large-scale power project.

Solar Trust of America Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Uwe T. Schmidt said of Brewer’s appointment, “We are extremely pleased and fortunate to have Steve join the Solar Trust management team at such an important time in the company’s history. His vast EPC and Maintenance and Operations expertise on large-scale utility projects will be critical assets as we begin construction on our Blythe Power Plant Project and other California and Nevada projects in our pipeline.”

Steven J. Brewer said of his new position, “I am proud and excited to join Uwe T. Schmidt’s senior management team at Solar Trust. The company has established itself as a true industry leader. The combination of in-house, bankable and proven CSP technology, a first class development team and a focused execution team will position us well to lead America to further rely on renewable energy resources. I look forward to spearheading the charge of building and operating these facilities.’

Prior to joining Tenaska Energy, Brewer served as Vice President of Supply for Des Moines, Iowa-based MidAmerican Energy Company, where he led the maintenance and operations activities of a diverse group of power generation assets totalling approximately 6,000 MW, the development and construction of a large base load facility, and the development and construction of 460 MW of wind generation facilities in the State.

Together with its wholly owned U.S. development subsidiary, Berkeley, California-based Solar Millennium, LLC, and global business partners Solar Millennium AG and Ferrostaal AG, Solar Trust of America is actively pursuing the construction and development of multiple solar thermal power plants across the southwestern U.S. The company currently has nine solar thermal energy power plants in advanced stages of development in Blythe, Ridgecrest and Palen, California, as well as in the Amargosa Valley near Las Vegas.
