REpower wins 74.8 MW wind power order in Germany

REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) – in which Suzlon Energy Limited is the majority shareholder with over 90 per cent holding – has signed a wind energy contract with German wind farm project developer Denker & Wulf AG, for the delivery of 22 wind turbines to a new wind farm project in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.

The REpower 3.4M104 wind turbines, each with a rated output of 3.4 megawatts (MW), are intended for the Hohen Luckow wind farm southwest of Rostock. The 74.8 MW wind farm will be constructed by 2012. The contract includes a 15-year integrated service package (ISP) which covers project servicing and maintenance, in addition to delivery and installation of the wind turbines.

REpower will install the 3.4M104 wind turbine type – with a hub height of 128 meters and, a concrete and steel hybrid tower – for the first time in a major wind farm project. The new version achieves improved efficiency at locations with low wind speeds delivers higher energy output at inland sites.

Speaking on the order, Mr. Jens Müller-Nielsen, Managing Director – REpower Systems GmbH said: “This order is a huge success for REpower’s operations in Germany. The recent opening of our German subsidiary signaled our intention to further strengthen our position in the domestic market. For the German wind energy market, Hohen Luckow is an extremely large-scale project. The signing of the supply contract illustrates that the REpower 3.4M104 is a very attractive wind turbine type in our product portfolio.

“The long-term partnership with Denker & Wulf AG, which has already been behind numerous successful wind farm projects in the past, is confirmed with this project. We look forward to working together”, says Müller-Nielsen.

With more than 730 MW of installed wind energy capacity, Denker & Wulf is among Germany’s leading wind farm project developers, and also specializes in operational management and repowering. Mr. Torsten Levsen, CEO of Denker & Wulf AG said: “It was particularly important for us to choose the most powerful wind turbine of its kind for such a large-scale project and we are confident that we have found the right partner in REpower.”
