It is a privilege for Peugeot to place this very first iOn at the service of the Spanish Royal Family, known for its time-honored enthusiasm for the environmental cause.
Peugeot, the world leader in the production of electric vehicles in terms of the number of 106s sold from 1995 to 2003, takes a new step in its global strategy of emissions reductions by launching the iOn, the first new-generation electric vehicle, in Europe from the end of 2010.
Silent, lively, easy to handle and efficient thanks to its electric motor developing a power of 47 kW (64 bhp), this compact city run-around, with a length of 3.48 m, offers its four occupants a simple and relaxed drive, a high level of safety and a generous equipment specification.
Due to efficient management of electrical energy, the iOn has a comfortable range of 150 km in the standard European cycle. It takes 6 hours to fully recharge its Lithium-Ion battery, or 30 minutes for an 80 % charge using a special quick-charge terminal.
Designed for professional and private customers, the electric cars iOn will be available from the end of this year for a monthly rental of less than €500, which will include numerous maintenance and assistance services.
The iOn, 100 % electric, 100 % reality, is just one response from Peugeot to the new challenge of urban mobility: a welcome response, since to date 15 letters of intent have already been signed with mobility operators, environmental specialists and car-sharing companies in several European countries.
