REpower enters Swedish wind power market

REpower Systems Scandinavia AB subsidiary created. Contract signed for MM92 wind turbines. REpower exhibiting at the Swedish industry fair VIND in Göteborg from September 15 to 17.

REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) has inked an agreement with Klågerup Kraft AB, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), for the delivery of three wind turbines to Sweden. The REpower MM92 wind turbines, each with a rated power of 2.05 megawatts (MW), are intended for a wind farm project near the city of Malmö (Skåne province).

It is developed and partly owned by HS Kraft AB, one of the leading developers of wind energy in Sweden. The wind farm Klågerup is slated for installation and operation by late fall 2011. At the same time, the Hamburg-based wind turbine manufacturer founded REpower Systems Scandinavia AB, a Swedish subsidiary. The company is registered in Stockholm. In September, REpower will also open an office in Västerås, roughly 100 km west of Stockholm.

The wind farm in the south of Sweden and the launch of the wholly owned subsidiary mark the company’s entry into the Swedish market. “We’re pleased to be working with HS Kraft as experienced partner to implement our first project in Sweden,” says Per Hornung Pedersen, Chief Market Officer of REpower Systems AG.

“Sweden is an important market of the future for wind energy. With the Swedish government’s concrete and ambitious goals for the expansion of renewable energy sources, the simplified planning and approval process, and the joint certificate market with Norway beginning in 2012 there is a supportive regulatory framework for wind turbine projects.”

According to estimates by the Swedish wind turbines association Svensk Vindenergi, there will be roughly 6,000 MW of onshore wind turbines capacity installed in the country by 2020 – currently about a quarter has been implemented. “The market boasts tremendous potential that we naturally want to take advantage of for REpower in the coming years,” says Pedersen.

REpower is a member of the Svensk Vindenergi association and for the first time will have a presence at the Swedish trade fair VIND in Göteborg from September 15 to 17, 2010. Around 100 companies will be showcasing their products and services in roughly 4,000 square meters of exhibition space. REpower will be presenting product innovations from its onshore and offshore portfolio at exhibit booth D00:07.
