REpower inaugurates new technology center on the Kiel Canal

Minister President Carstensen and the REpower Executive Board cut the red ribbon and symbolically opened the building. The opening ceremony was attended by more than 100 guests of honor.

Around 470 employees, primarily from Research and Development, Technical Support and Service, are accommodated at the new wind energy research and technology complex. Previously, these departments were located at sites in Rendsburg, Büdelsdorf and Husum.

In his greeting, Matthias Schubert, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the international wind turbine manufacturer stressed the importance of research and development activities for the company: "With innovative products and technologies, REpower will also take a leading position in the wind energy sector in the future. And just as important as the talented individuals behind our systems are the correct location and the ideal environment for development activities – we’ve found both of these here in Osterrönfeld."

With the installation of the Permanent Monitoring System (PMS) this week, the relocation is complete. Via the control center of the PMS department, located in the ground floor of the TechCenter, the global REpower fleet of more than 2,500 wind turbines is remotely monitored 24 hours a day.

The research and technology center was built by Max Bögl Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co. KG and has approximately 11,700 square meters of usable floor space in total.

It consists of two structures: a nine-story office building and a second, trapezoid-shaped building with four floors, which also houses a cafeteria on the basement level. In addition to research activities and further development of the REpower wind turbines and products, the worldwide service and maintenance of onshore and offshore wind turbines will be organized from the Osterrönfeld location.
