Detroit Edison Seeks Wind Turbines Supplier

Detroit Edison issued a Request for Prequalification to purchase wind turbines equipment to be installed at one or more wind farms the electric utility is planning to develop.

The wind farms will be located in Michigan with a total wind energy capacity ranging from 100 to 200 megawatts (MW). Detroit Edison is seeking companies that provide wind turbines capable of producing a minimum of 1.5 MW.

Qualified wind power suppliers will be invited to submit a proposal during the next six to 12 months, but only companies that submit a response to the prequalification request will be considered. The deadline is Sept. 3.

Detailed bid documents for the prequalification are available at www.dteenergy.com/renewsuppliers. Interested companies must register with PowerAdvocate at www.poweradvocate.com to view and respond to the prequalification request.

Detroit Edison has focused its wind farm development interest primarily in Huron County. To meet the state’s 10 percent renewable energy standard, Detroit Edison will need about 1,200 MW of renewable energy, of which half can be owned by the electric utility.

Detroit Edison also is reviewing other opportunities including power purchase agreements and joint development projects related to renewable energy generation.
