RES Americas Awarded for Nebraska Wind Energy Project

Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas), a national leader in the development and construction of renewable energy projects, has been awarded the Balance of Plant (BOP) construction contract for the Flat Water Wind farm in Nebraska. The wind turbines project will mark RES Americas’ second wind energy project in the state.

As the project owner and operator, Flat Water Wind Farm, LLC ("Flat Water") selected RES Americas to be the BOP construction contractor. Flat Water recognized RES Americas’ proposal to be the best value presented after a rigorous and competitive bidding process. The project company is associated with a tri-party partnership between Gallop Power, Gestamp Wind North America, a subsidiary of Gestamp Renewables (Gestamp Corporation) and Banco Santander, S.A.

"Nebraska has great potential for clean, renewable energy and, through the construction of Flat Water Wind Project, RES Americas will continue to help the state realize its clean energy goals," said Chris Hills, VP of Construction Projects for RES Americas. "This project will mark our first partnership with the project sponsors and we look forward to establishing a strong professional relationship with these companies."

Located in southern Nebraska’s Richardson County and Kansas’ Nemaha County, the 60 megawatt (MW) project will comprise 40 1.5 MW GE wind turbines and have the capacity to power over 16,000 homes with clean, renewable energy. Construction is underway with completion scheduled for December 2010.

"We are delighted to be working on the Flat Water Wind Project with RES Americas, one of the leading wind energy construction contractors in the U.S.," commented Stephen Wiley, a Flat Water board member. "This project not only has tremendous local and state support, the power purchaser, Omaha Public Power District, has strongly committed to clean, renewable energy with its first purchase of wind power from Flat Water."

For more than a decade, RES Americas has been developing, constructing, owning, and operating renewable energy projects across North and South America. The company employs 240 full time professionals working throughout North America, has constructed over 3,800 MW, has over 1,000 MW under construction, and is working on a development portfolio of more than 12,500 MW. RES Americas is dedicated to securing a sustainable energy future.
