China to boost offshore wind power

China, the world’s biggest polluter, wants at least 15 percent of its energy to come from renewable sources by 2020 as it seeks to reduce reliance on coal and oil.

The nation has enough wind energy potential to generate seven times its current power consumption, Michael McElroy, a researcher at Harvard University, said in a report in September last year.

The Expo 2010 is brilliant and draws worldwide attention. Adding luster to the Expo, the first Asian offshore wind farm, located in East China Sea, is definitely a magnificent landscape.

At 15:58, June 8th, 2010, the commissioning of 34 offshore wind turbines in the first Asian offshore wind farm, Shanghai Donghai Bridge 3 MW Project, was completed and all wind turbines were connected to grids and put into operations.

Therefore, Sinovel has set up another milestone in the history of Chinese wind power and realized China’s dream of offshore wind power, which enables continuous supply of green & clean energy to cities.

A powerful team is ensured by adequate supply of spare parts, effective logistics, and sophisticated technicians. Sinovel makes every effort to ensure fulfillment of wind turbine commissioning on schedule.

From June 7th to 9th, Sinovel 5MW offshore wind turbines made its debut on OFFSHORE WIND CHINA 2010. On the Exhibition, which is the largest in Asia in scale, audiences were exposed to the latest research status of those turbines.

So far, two sessions of OFFSHORE WIND CHINA has been hosted; it is the first professional platform focusing on offshore wind power market in Asia. This Session consisted of 14 workshops concentrating on such subjects as offshore wind power market, policies, turbine technologies, etc.

The exhibition covered 10,000 m2, participated by more than 100 exhibitors from 12 countries/regions.At present, except Europe, China is the sole country capable of offshore wind power; moreover, Sinovel is a global offshore wind turbine producer, following SIEMENS, VESTAS, and REPOWER.

The progress in research & manufacture of Sinovel 5MW offshore wind turbines has been in the limelight for a long time and thus, Sinovel wind turbines were one of the spotlights on this Exhibition. Sinovel principal indicated that the 5WM offshore wind turbine project has fulfilled design & component sourcing activities and the prototypes will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year. Then, it will be another great event in China’s wind power industry.
