Cost of wind power ‘is falling’

That is according to secretary of state at the department of energy and climate change Chris Huhne who recently spoke at the Wind Week event.

He said: "Onshore wind farm is now competitive with all of the conventional energy sources and I think we are going to see the same thing happen over time with offshore wind turbines."

Britain has a fantastic resource in its breezy climate and taking advantage of these environmental opportunities could potentially fuel some 33 million properties, Mr Huhne added.

As the nation only has around 24 million houses, it could also open avenues for the UK to become an exporter of responsible energy supplies, the expert concluded.

RenewableUK confirmed these claims with a report which claims more offshore wind farm locations could improve the industry – and seven sites have already been approved for expansion.
