REpower Unveils New Turbine Designed For UK Wind Power

The global wind turbines manufacturer has extended its product range in the 3.XM series to include two new wind turbines with a range of hub heights.

The UK specific product is the REpower 3.4M104 (3.4 MW rated output) with rotor diameter of 104m and a 93 metre tower. This meets the 145 metre maximum height in planning terms and it is designed for class as IEC1b, making it suited to the windier conditions in the UK and in particular, Scotland.

The wind turbines are already being actively sold in the UK wind farm market with the first installations expected in summer of 2011.

Rick Eggleston, Managing Director, REpower UK, commented;

“The launch of the 3.4M104 is a very important development for REpower in the UK because this turbine is right for the UK on so many levels. Not only is it designed for the UK wind conditions but it will also sit well within the political environment surrounding wind farms. It will maximise the connection capacity, increasing the energy output. We already have a number of interested customers looking at this option and we’re very keen to have the product operating around Britain as soon as possible.”

REpower Systems already has in place a preferred supplier agreement with British manufacturer, Mabey Bridge, to source towers for many of its UK developments from within the UK. The arrival of the 3.4M is expected to strengthen REpower’s UK business thus contributing to growth in employment in UK’s flourishing alternative energy industry.

Repower systems applies high design margins to all turbine components to ensure maximum reliability over the lifetime of a turbine. The company also offers its customer base a 15 year operations and management package which increases certainty on project costs.

The wind power product development has been led by Matthias Schubert, chief technology officer for REpower Systems AG, who commented

“Both the 3.4M104 with high hub heights as well as the new 3.2M114 with its 114 m rotor diameter are likely to be popular additions to our range. With these turbines, we are building on tried-and-tested REpower technology, which has already proven itself in the previous 3.XM wind turbines.”

REpower Systems AG will be at the EWEC, Hall 3 Stand 3310.
