Siemens Reaches 2GW Wind Power Capacity in the UK

This milestone has been achieved less than 18 months after Siemens completed installation of its first gigawatt of wind turbines capacity, making the company’s installations the largest offshore wind power base in Europe.

Siemens recently announced the installation of its 1000th UK wind turbine, a milestone which was also reached at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm. The Gunfleet Sands wind farm is owned by Dong Energy, the world’s leading operator of offshore wind farms.

Siemens provides 40% of the UK’s wind energy generating capacity and is the market leader in offshore wind turbines in the UK, including the recent award to the SMartwind consortium of the 4 GW contract for the "Hornsea" zone of the Round 3 wind farm programme.

Siemens was established in the United Kingdom 167 years ago and now employs 16,915 people in the UK. Last year’s revenues were GBP4.2 billion.
