NYSERDA awards wind energy contract to Horizon Wind

Horizon Wind Energy, a wind power company owned by EDP Renovaveis, has secured a contract from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority in conjunction with the Public Service Commission to sell renewable energy credits for a volume equivalent to 171 MW of capacity for 10 years from its Marble River Wind Farm currently under development and located in Clinton County, New York.

The contract award is from New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) fifth competitive solicitation and will be funded through the New York Renewable Portfolio Standard, which supports and finances the development of renewable energy resources.

Horizon Wind Energy has over 950 MW in development in New York state and through an equal stake joint venture owns and operates the 322MW Maple Ridge Wind Farm in Lewis County. The renewable energy credits from Maple Ridge have been contracted to NYSERDA and to the New York Power Authority and various third parties since January 2006.

Gabriel Alonso, CEO of Horizon Wind Energy, said: "Horizon Wind Energy is pleased to be able to continue its relationship with NYSERDA with this wind farm contract award and we look forward to the opportunity to continue to provide clean renewable energy from wind turbines to the state of New York and its consumers."
