EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions its first wind farm in Mexico

La Mata La Ventosa wind farm is situated in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, in the Tehuantepec Isthmus where wind energy resources are particularly favorable. It comprises 27 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.5 MW each, supplied by US manufacturer Clipper Windpower.

The electricity generated by the wind farm will meet the consumption needs of a number of stores owned by retailer Walmart Mexico, with whom a 15-year electricity supply agreement has been signed under the self-supply regulations of Mexico.

Deal of the Year from Ex-Im Bank awarded to Fabienne Demol, EDF EN, and presented by the President Obama on March 11, 2010. EDF Energies Nouvelles received on March 11 the 2010 Deal of the Year award from the Export-Import Bank of the United States for the Clipper Windpower turbines transaction related to La Mata La Ventosa wind project in Mexico.

La Mata La Ventosa was developed and built by EDF Energies Nouvelles’ Mexican subsidiary Electrica del Valle de Mexico (EVM) and is fully owned by the Group. Clipper and EDF Energies Nouvelles’ US subsidiary enXco will be responsible for the operating and maintenance of the wind farm.

“This wind power project is a great success thanks to the positive dialog with La Mata and La Ventosa local communities,” said Fabienne Demol, Head of New Business Development at EDF Energies Nouvelles. “Walmart Mexico´s strong commitment, toward the environment, has also been essential to this successful cooperation”.

La Mata La Ventosa wind farm is EDF Energies Nouvelles’ first wind energy project in Mexico and forms part of the Group’s strategy of expanding its presence in North America, where it also operates in the United States and Canada.

With operations in Europe and North America, EDF Energies Nouvelles is a market leader in green electricity production. With a development focused on wind energy for several years and more recently on solar photovoltaic, the Group is also present in other segments of the renewable energies market: small hydro, marine energy, biomass, biofuel and biogas. In addition, the Group is expanding in the distributed renewable energies sector.

EDF Energies Nouvelles, 50 %-owned by the EDF Group, is listed in Euronext Paris since November 2006 (code "EEN", ISIN code: FR0010400143).
