Suzlon receives 52.5MW wind power order from Gujarat State Petronet

Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), the world’s third leading and India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, has won a major order from Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. (GSPL) to set up, operate and maintain its 52.5 MW wind farm in the Rajkot and Porbandar districts of Gujarat.

The wind energy project will be supplied in 35 wind turbines of Suzlon’s model S82 – 1.5 MW wind turbine generators, and is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by July, 2010. The power generated from this wind farm will be purchased by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited under a long term PPA with GSPL.

Suzlon and REpower, if taken together, stand as the world’s third leading wind turbine supplier group in terms of market share. 12.3% market share derived from BTM Consult ApS World Market Update 2008, ranking Suzlon with 9% of global market share and REpower with 3.3% of global market share.

Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPCL), the parent company of GSPL, has an existing wind power project of 52.5 MW in the Kutch district of Gujarat supplied, set]up and operated by Suzlon since July, 2009. This new wind farm will take the group’s overall wind power installed capacity to 105 MW, all in the state of Gujarat.

The process to register existing wind power project with the UNFCC under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program is already initiated, and will also be followed for the new project.
