Suzlon bags 8.7 MW order from Larsen & Toubro group

The wind farm will comprise of three units of Suzlon`s S82- 1.5 mw turbines and two units of Suzlon S88 – 2.1 mw wind turbines generators, and is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by Mar.30, 2010.

Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), the world’s third leading wind power and India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer, has won an order from L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Limited (L&TIDPL) a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Ltd – one of India’s leading engineering companies – to set up, operate and maintain a 8.7 MW wind energy project.

This is the first order received by Suzlon from Larsen & Toubro group. The project will be set-up in Tamil Nadu for L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Limited, the infrastructure development arm of L&T. The wind power power generated from this project will be wheeled for captive use at L&T facilities in Tamil Nadu under an energy wheeling agreement with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. The project is estimated to benefit L&T Group due to the savings in comparison with the prevailing commercial power tariffs in the state. Furthermore, carbon credits will keep the project viable.

K Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, L&T’s Developmental Projects Sector said: “We are a technology-driven company offering a wide range of advanced solutions, services and products with a very strong commitment towards sustainability. Our investment with Suzlon in wind energy is based on not just lowered cost of power, but also the environmental aspects – conserving resources and helping mitigate climate risks. Suzlon is the leader in the wind sector in India and offers us a close collaborative approach to the project and we look forward to a successful experience in this new project as the bedrock for future renewable investments.”
