Enel Green Power increases its geothermal capacity in Italy

In Larderello, the 12 MW Lagoni Rossi plant that just entered into service is an example of Enel Green Power’s cutting-edge know how in the geothermal field.

Indeed, the facility shows innovative features that place it at the forefront of technological development in its category. It complies with the highest environmental and landscape impact standards and is also equipped with an innovative system for remote monitoring and diagnostics, which enables full remote control of the facility and prevention of possible malfunctions.

Now Enel Green Power has 32 geothermal plants in Tuscany, with a total capacity of 842 MW and an annual output of over 5 billion kWh, capable of meeting the electricity needs of approximately 2 million Italian homes, while saving 1.1 million tonnes of oil equivalent.

These figures will undergo further grow (by up to 200 MW) following an agreement with the Tuscany Region for the sustainable development of geothermal energy use, the improvement of steam extraction technologies, the enhancement of the areas where the geothermal fields are located and environmental protection.
