Elecnor Group obtains five new wind farms in Brazil

The Elecnor Group, via the Elecnor-Enerfin do Brasil Sociedade de Energia Consortium, was the winning bidder at the LER 003/2009 reserve energy auction of 96 MW, which is earmarked to be used as a source of wind energy. The auction was held on 14 December in Brazil.

The winning project consisted of five wind farms totalling 96 MW of wind power with a total estimated output of over 330 GWh/year which will be installed in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Estimates put investment at around €183 million. The Group, when taking part in the auction, was committed to incorporate the company Electrica Estadual de Rio Grande do Sul (CEEE), as well as the technology company/wind generator manufacturer Enercon-Wobben Wind Power, which gives this new project outstanding technical ability and business acumen.

Consequently, Elecnor has reinforced its strong presence in Brazil, which started in 2006 with the construction of the Osorio wind farm (current power: 150 MW). With this new undertaking, the Elecnor Group will have over 250 MW of wind power in Brazil.

Brazil awarded the construction and operation of 71 wind farms with a capacity of 1805.7 MW of wind power in the first auction in the country.
