Siemens sponsors Grid-Interop 2009

Siemens is pleased to announce that Dave Pacyna, senior vice president and general manager of the NAFTA Transmission & Distribution Divisions of Siemens Energy, Inc., is nominated to the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) Governing Board. Pacyna was nominated based on his knowledge of global points of view and smart grid experiences from all around the world; interconnection to building management technology for demand management; management of e-mobility infrastructure initiatives in North America; experience and management of Siemens’ automation, SCADA, EMS/DMS, cyber security, demand management business; development of several high-profile HVDC projects; and fostering the interconnection of renewables into the grid. Elections will be held during Grid-Interop.

Siemens’Ken Geisler, Smart Grid Chief Architect, will have the honor of introducing Constellation Energy Senior Vice President Peter Kelly-Detwieler, who will address attendees Wednesday evening on pricing signals, the impact of electric vehicles, how to include renewables (wind power, solar energy) and the democratization of information.

"The future of the Smart Grid is of vital importance to the U.S. because it affects the way of life that Americans have come to enjoy and expect," said Wes Sylvester, Siemens Energy, Inc. director of distribution solutions. "Siemens is among the first engineering innovators in the world, and we’ve taken a leadership role in not only developing the technology strategy necessary to make the Smart Grid dream a reality, but in actually implementing Smart Grid solutions," he added.

Because Siemens understands the complete energy conversion chain, we’re able to transform today’s grid into a living infrastructure that is smart enough to respond quickly, flexibly and comprehensively to society’s energy needs. And Siemens also incorporates solutions for commercial and industrial applications as well as smart homes including building automation, IT systems integration, advanced lighting technology and energy efficient appliances for a comprehensive Smart Gridsolution.

About Grid-Interop 09 (www.grid-interop.com)

Development and implementation of an interoperable, secure, yet scalable Smart Grid is moving forward at a rapid pace. Grid-Interop is the annual event that industry experts, stakeholders, and policy makers attend each year to discuss, debate, and determine the best path forward for development of interoperable components of a Smart Grid.

In partnership with The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the GridWise Architecture Council, Clasma Events, Inc. is organizing a collaborative environment for the energy industry to advance NIST’s recently issued a draft Framework and Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability Standards from concept to reality. NIST is dedicated to creating a transparent environment for enabling the unifying Smart Grid framework that will encompass multiple interfaces, protocols, and standards.
