Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles Installed in Germany

The public utility in Bochum has activated five charging stations installed by distribution partner 365 Energy Group. The ChargePoint charging stations ensure that in the future electric vehicles can easily be “fuelled” in the Ruhr area metropolis.

After testing three suppliers, the public utility Bochum selected Coulomb’s ChargePoint charging stations for their advanced networking technology. One charging station has been installed in the customer parking lot at the headquarters of the public utility. Another charging station is located at the housing association VBW in the Matthias-Claudius-Straße. The locations of the other three ChargePoint stations have not been determined.

“The installation of Coulomb’s first charging stations in Germany is another step in the progress of EV adoption in Europe,” said Richard Lowenthal, CEO of Coulomb Technologies. “As home of some of the top automobile designers and producers in the world, Germany is making a statement with their commitment to alternative fuels. Germany is now reducing their dependence on foreign oil and greenhouse gas emissions with the installation of these charging stations.”

Coulomb Technologies’ charging stations are used in homes, municipalities, office buildings and parking garages to allow consumers to charge their electric vehicles wherever they live, work and shop. Consumers subscribe to the ChargePoint® Network and receive a ChargePoint Smart Card that allows them to charge their car at any charging station worldwide. “Setting up the charging stations is a first step in the expansion of electric mobility and the necessary infrastructure,” said public utilities principal Bernd Wilmert. “Within the campaign Bochum becomes e-mobile.” Wilmert introduced the charging stations involvement during ruhrmobil-E, a regional association of industry, economy, politics and research.

365 Energy Group – Changing the Way People Move

The 365 Energy Group with locations in Berlin, Eindhoven and Milano sees itself as the pioneer in the e-mobility industry. The company provides innovative charging stations with a network technology – a completely new and holistic approach to charging electric vehicles. This technology was developed by Coulomb Technologies, the global market leader in the infrastructure of electric vehicles. 365 Energy is the international partner of Coulomb Technologies and an investment management company of Estag Capital AG in Berlin.

Coulomb Technologies Celebrates Electrifying 1st Year in Business

In the first year since Coulomb Technologies launched the ChargePoint™ Networked Charging Stations for electric vehicles, the Company has achieved significant milestones; it has completed more than 140 worldwide installations and has distributors covering all 50 states in the US. The company has also established European headquarters and developed technology partnerships for solar and Smart Grid integration. Looking to the future of charging infrastructure, Coulomb Technologies will showcase Level 2 (208/240V @ 30A) technology support for fleet and consumer electric vehicles (EVs) with its CT2000 family of charging stations at Plug-in 2009 in Long Beach, Calif. Booth #215, August 10-13, 2009.

“In the past year, Coulomb has been traveling emission-free at warp speed,” said Richard Lowenthal CEO of Coulomb Technologies. “Coulomb has installed infrastructure worldwide through a distribution network available in all 50 states and in much of Europe through our partner company, 365 Energy. In January, the City of San Jose, Calif. became the first installation of Coulomb’s charging stations, and by the end of 2009 we expect to have shipped 1000 stations. While sales are booming, we are excited about our new initiatives, and important new services for the benefit of drivers, station owners and utilities.”

First year Coulomb milestones include:

“With 63 million passenger fleet vehicles polluting the air every day in North America the fleets are going to need a fully integrated solution of vehicles and charging infrastructure,” said Jay Giraud CEO of Rapid Electric Vehicles. “These new fleets are going to need convenient charging stations to meet the mandates for clean air emission standards. We are excited to be working with a market leader like Coulomb to bring Level 2 charging to fleets with our REV Pack solution which transforms in-service gasoline fleet vehicles into 100 percent electric vehicles.”
