Seajacks (U.K.) completes construction of large offshore wind energy installation vessel

Seajacks International Limited (Seajacks), a U.K.-based offshore wind power installation provider, owned by Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) and Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), completed construction of one of the largest vessels in the offshore wind installation industry on November 19, 2015.

Since Marubeni and INCJ acquired Seajacks in May 2012, Seajacks has accumulated experience in both the offshore wind and oil & gas markets in the European region. With five vessels, including this new vessel named Seajacks Scylla, Seajacks is aiming to expand its business to Japan, Asia and the Middle East as a leading company in the European offshore wind installation market.

Construction finance was provided through a syndication of seven banks: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited, Mizuho Bank Ltd., ING Bank N.V., Swedbank AB (publ), Development Bank of Japan Inc., Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, and Shinsei Bank, Limited. The finance was also supported by Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure).

In the power project market, Marubeni has accumulated a track record of over 103,000MW in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of power generation plants and has expanded power generation assets to over 10,700MW (net). In addition, Marubeni has entered into the business of operation & maintenance and safety management of power plants. The offshore wind market is expected to expand mainly in the European region with high efficiency and technology innovation. Marubeni will continue focusing on business opportunities in the value chain of offshore wind market.
