Invenergy Announces Start of Commercial Operations at Orangeville Wind Farm in New York

Invenergy Wind LLC has announced the completion of construction and start of commercial operations of its 94 MW Orangeville Wind Farm, located in Wyoming County, N.Y.

The turbine maker GE took steps to replace affected blades across its fleet, and in December 2013, Invenergy announced it was resuming work on the Orangeville project.

“Orangeville Wind is Invenergy’s second wind project in Wyoming County, and we’re proud to bring additional economic benefit to the area,” says Jim Shield, chief development officer at Invenergy. “We’re also pleased to have built a new source of clean, renewable energy in New York, one of the nation’s leading states in installed wind generation capacity.”

Through a competitive process, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded a contract to Orangeville Wind to produce and deliver renewable electricity to New York. NYSERDA has committed to purchase the project’s renewable energy credits for 10 years, and electricity produced by Orangeville Wind is sold into the wholesale markets managed by the New York Independent System Operator.

Contractors on the project were Tetra Tech Construction and O’Connell Electric Co., both based in New York State, as well as Pennsylvania-based Henkels & McCoy.

Orangeville Wind is located nearby Invenergy’s 112.5 MW Sheldon Wind Farm, which began commercial operations in 2009.
