Wind farm in India: Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation to invest Rs 300 crore for wind power generation

Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has decided to invest Rs 300 crore for expanding its wind power generation capacity to 150 MW.

GMDC already has around 100 MW of wind power generation capacity. The next project is likely to coming up at Bhanwad in Jamnagar district.

The Engineering procurement Contract for the wind farm has been awarded to Suzlon Energy. The project is likely to be commissioned in October.

On completion, the project would generate around 10 crore units of electricity each year. According to officials, the entire power pro-duced at the wind farm would be sold to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL). The present tariff for wind power is Rs 3.56 per unit.

The project will also general carbon credits for company.

The existing 100.50 MW wind power projects are located in coastal areas of Rajkot, Jamnagar and Porbandar. GMDC has also commissioned a 5 MW solar power plant at its Panandhro lignite mines in Kutch.
