Acciona will build three wind farms with 304.2 MW in Mexico for $ 600 million

09 de marzo de 2010

The Mexican subsidiary of the Spanish Acciona Energy will build three wind farms in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, with a total investment of 600 million dollars and 304.2 megawatts.

Acciona will build three wind farms with 304.2 MW in Mexico for $ 600 million

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) indicated that Acciona Energy won the international tender for the construction of wind farms Oaxaca II, III and Oaxaca Oaxaca IV, which have a combined wind energy capacity of 304.2 megawatts of generation and will enter into commercial operation in 2011.

Acciona has been awarded to build the wind power parks in Mexico, one of the leading wind energy projects in this country, beating the competition to the Spanish ACS and Iberdrola.

The wind energy projects will be located in the south of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, where it will interconnect the national electricity system, representing an investment of approximately $ 600 million.

These wind farms are part of the program of diversification of sources of generation of the CFE, in keeping with the Mexican government's target of achieving 25% of total electricity generation in the country with renewable energy in 2012.

Work with wind turbines, generating individual whose capacity can not be less than 1,000 kilowatts, so it is estimated that each of the wind farm comprise an average of 101 wind turbines.

The construction of the wind farms will last 526 days. During its development will generate approximately 1,200 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs.

Wind farms have a net electricity generation joint annual average 1129.29 gigawatt hours (GWh). According to the ruling, the company Acciona offer the best price generation level (PNG), with less than 7 cents per kilowatt-hour, so the prices are competitive compared to what established in North America and Europe, where the kilowatt-hour sells for between 9 and 10 cents.

The winning proposal:
Wind farm- cents per kilowatt-hour
Oaxaca II-6.58 cents
Oaxaca III-6.78 cents
Oaxaca IV-6.37 cents
