Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas emerges as a key player in the development of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology in China

Delingha Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant will have a very positive economic impact in the area.

Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas and CGN Delingha Solar Energy Corporation have recently signed an (Owner’s Engineer) OE contract, after China CSP developer launched a competitive tender process. Delingha project is a 50 MW solar thermal parabolic trough power plant, where solar energy is transformed in high pressure steam and then becomes electrical power thanks to the movement of a turbine. The project will include a solar field of about 190 loops and will have a thermal storage in molten salts equivalent to 1300 MWh. This plant is expected to be in operation in the next 2 years. This solar plant is located in Delingha, capital of the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province. It is an important milestone for the sector worldwide and especially for the renewable energy industry in this region.

Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas’ portfolio exceeds 1,000 MW in international renewable energy projects. The firm, with offices in Spain, United States, and in China, has successfully developed projects in more than 22 countries.

One of their most recent accomplishments came with winning a bid to construct a concentrated solar plant in Ouarzazate; the first stand-alone thermoelectric solar energy project in North Africa, as well as Bokpoort project in South Africa. Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas provides with a wide range of integrated engineering services for the energy generation industry, as well as advanced owner’s engineering and technical advisory for large energy projects especially with technologies such as CSP, PV, Wind, Hydro and Cogeneration Systems.

Ignacio Sáenz, Business Development Director at Aries Ingeniería y Sistemas has recently stated: “We are very proud of being part of this huge and strategic step for the CSP sector in China. I strongly believe that Aries will go on reinforcing its position as leading company in renewable energy sector. This is the only possible strategy –informed- in a constantly growing market as the Asian one.”

Established in September, 1994 with a registered capital of RMB 10.2 billion, China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN, formerly known as China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group) is a large clean energy group under the supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council of China. Growing up in tandem with China’s Reform and Opening-up driven, and the country’s nuclear power program, CGN, as a colossal state-owned enterprise, comprises its core member (China General Nuclear Power Corporation) and over 30 subsidiaries.

Since its inception, CGN has been making unrelenting efforts to fulfill its mission of “developing clean energy to benefit mankind”, and to realize its vision of “building one of the world’s top clean energy enterprises”. By the end of MAY 2014, the installed capacity of CGN’s operating nuclear generating units has reached 11,620 MWe, and 13 other nuclear generating units are currently under construction involving a total installed capacity of 15,500 MWe. In addition, CGN owns an installed capacity of 5,000 MWe for wind power generators in operation, a total capacity of 500 MWe for solar photovoltaic power, and a controlling equity capacity of 1,470 MWe for hydro power. Moreover, CGN has made great strides in distributed energy, nuclear technology application and energy conservation technical services.
