Concentrated solar thermal power production increased 29% in the first six months of the year, reaching 2,446 GWh accumulated, compared to 1,886 GWh in the same period in 2013, according to the results analyzed by Protermosolar.

 

This semester, the month of May was the one that recorded the highest cumulative production of 731 GWh, representing a supply of 3.8% of the electricity needs of Spain.
So far this year, the record for timely production occurred on July 9, with more than 31.7 GWh.
 

 

Protermosolar is the association representing the Spanish sector of the solar thermal industry and consists of about 70 members. Solar thermal technology, in which Spain is a leader internationally, has recently burst onto the scene of renewable energy worldwide and is currently the one with the highest growth potential for its manageability and storage capacity for its high local job creation and potential cost reduction. The installed capacity in Spain is 2,304 MW and the contribution of Spanish companies in the international markets is 70%.
