Solar power produced in photovoltaic installations, increasing by 55% in Romania

Solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations in the first ten months of this year was 3.18 billion kWh, up 55.1% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The figures regarding solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations also include prosumers.

Production from thermal power plants was 14.06 billion kWh, down 1.2%, production from hydroelectric power plants was 12.53 billion kWh, down 21.3%, and production from nuclear power plants was 8.9 billion kWh, down 4.3%.

Production from wind power plants, between January 1 and October 31, 2024, was 5.07 billion kWh, down 18.2% compared to the same period last year.

Final electricity consumption in the first nine months was 41.55 billion kWh, 1.3% higher than the same period in 2023. Final electricity consumption in the economy amounted to 31.54 billion kWh, up 0.9%, population consumption (9.69 billion kWh) increased by 3%, and public lighting decreased by 2.4% (327.2 million kWh).

Electricity exports were 9.10 million kWh, down 3.6%, and imports were 10.82 billion kWh, up 59.7%.

The technological own consumption in networks and stations was 3.92 billion kWh, down 3.3%. INS statistics also show that primary energy resources, during the period January 1 – October 31, 2024, decreased by 1.5%, and electricity resources increased by 0.1%, compared to the first ten months of 2023.

The main primary energy resources totaled 27 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), down 414,900 toe. Domestic production amounted to 14.09 million toe, down 4.9%, and imports were 12.92 million toe, up +2.5%.
