Wind farm in Indonesia ready to operate in early 2018

The Ayala group’s power unit AC Energy expects its 75-megawatt wind power project in Indonesia to go online in the first quarter of 2018 as construction makes headway in South Sulawesi.

PT UPC Sidrap Bayu Energi (UPC Sidrap), the owner and operator of the $150-million Sidrap wind farm, is a joint venture among UPC Renewables, PT Binatek Energi Terbarukan and AC Energy Holdings.

AC Energy said in a statement UPC Sidrap began last August the installation of 30 units of 2.5-MW wind turbine generators. Construction work is already 70-percent done.

According to UPC Renewables, the Sidrap wind farm—named after the host town—was initially “scheduled to be producing power to the South Sulawesi … grid by late 2017.”

The Sidrap project is part of AC Energy’s moves to expand its footprint in the Southeast Asian region.

AC Energy also has a 20-percent stake in Star Energy (Salak-Darajat) B.V., which acquired Chevron’s geothermal operations in Indonesia.
