Tesla and Vestas team up on battery storage for wind energy

Vestas has confirmed it is working with Tesla to develop new battery storage technologies.

The Danish wind energy giant and the clean technology manufacturer aim to find better ways of storing the excess energy created by wind turbines.

This stored power would then be efficiently discharged when the wind isn’t blowing but electricity is required.

Vestas has suggested it is working with a range of other businesses to develop similar storage solutions and Tesla has recently started to expand uses for its batteries outside of electric vehicles (EVs) and Powerwall solar units.

A spokesperson for Vestas said: “Across a number of projects, Vestas is working with different energy storage technologies with specialised companies, including Tesla, to explore and test how wind turbines and energy storage can work together in sustainable energy solutions that can lower the cost of energy.”
