Brazil Wind Power: Wind Farm of Enel Green Power with 90 MW

The company has been awarded the right to sign energy supply contracts with the 90 MW Cristalândia wind power project located in north-eastern Brazil. Enel Green Power will be investing a total of approximately 190 million US dollars in the construction of the plan.

Following the public renewable energy auction LFA (Leilão de Fontes Alternativas), Enel Green Power has been awarded the right to sign 20-year power supply contracts with a pool of Brazilian electricity distribution companies that will be supplied with power produced by the new 90 MW Cristalândia wind project.

“We are thrilled to announce the successful outcome of this tender, which brings us up to nearly 700 MW won in Brazilian wind power auctions since 2010,” said Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Venturini. “Brazil is a strategic country for us, one where we have built a diversified presence of wind, hydro and solar power and where we are making the most of our innovative approach to combine solar facilities with wind farms or hydropower plants in the same production site. We are using this approach to pursue further growth of our sustainable energy and continue support of the country’s economy.”

Enel Green Power will be investing a total of approximately 190 million US dollars in the construction of the new wind power plant, in line with the growth targets set out in the company’s current business plan.

Cristalândia will be constructed in Bahia State in north-eastern Brazil, where the company already manages approximately 260 MW of wind power projects that are either operating or under construction, as well as over 254 MW of solar photovoltaic and a further 200MW of wind projects awarded in public tenders held in 2014.

The wind farm, which will be completed and enter into service in 2017, will be able to generate over 350 GWh per year while avoiding the annual emission of over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company fully dedicated to the international development and management of renewable energy sources, with operations in Europe, the Americas and Africa. With an annual generation capacity equal to approximately 32 billion kWh from water, sun, wind and the Earth’s heat – enough to meet the energy needs of more than 10 million households – Enel Green Power is a world leader in the sector thanks to its well-balanced generation mix that provides generation volumes well over the sector average. As of today, the company has an installed capacity of approximately 9,600 MW from a mix of sources including wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal and biomass. The company has about 740 plants operating in 15 countries.
