Senvion wins four UK wind power orders with Blue Energy totalling over 45 MW

Senvion SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzlon Group and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of wind turbines, has signed four new contracts totaling 45 megawatts (MW) with leading renewable energy developer Blue Energy.

These represent the first contracts Senvion has signed with the UK developer and will involve the supply of turbines to Blue Energy’s Grange Wind Farm in North Lincolnshire, Kelmarsh Wind Farm and Winwick Wind Farm near Northampton and Chiplow Wind Farm in Norfolk.

Located near Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, Grange Wind Farm will consist of six MM92 turbines with a total rated output of 12.3 MW, enough electricity to power more than 6,500 homes. Turbines are due to be delivered in autumn 2015 and is due for handover to the client in the first quarter of 2016.

Kelmarsh Wind Farm is located in Northamptonshire and will consist of a further six MM92 turbines, four at 78 metre hub height and the remaining two at 69 metre hub height, enabling the wind farm to take full advantage of variable wind speeds. Turbines will be delivered to site in autumn 2015 and the project is due for completion in spring 2016. Senvion will also look after maintenance of the wind farm for 20 years.

Winwick Wind Farm will also consist of six MM92 turbines. Construction is due to start in autumn 2015 with project handover completed in spring 2016.

Chiplow Wind Farm is located in Norfolk and will consist of four MM82 turbines with a total rated output of 8.2 MW. Installation will begin in autumn 2015 and is due for completion in spring 2016.

Raymond Gilfedder, Managing Director of Senvion Northern Europe commented: “We are delighted to be signing our first contracts with Blue Energy which marks a very positive start to the year for Senvion in the UK. Blue Energy already own operational wind farms featuring Senvion turbines, so confirming our first supply contracts with them further enhances our successful relationship. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with them in the future.”

Chris Dean CEO of Blue Energy said: “The realisation of these projects is a significant milestone in the growth of Blue Energy. Senvion’s MM series turbines proved to be ideally optimized for these sites. We are pleased to be able to build upon an already existing relationship with Senvion and look forward with confidence to the successful delivery of the projects.”
