Egypt to generate 8 GW from solar power, wind energy

overcome energy shortages.

Egypt will fix feed-in tariffs for renewable energy in early October as it aims to increase power generated from renewable energy sources, according to declarations made by Investment Minister Ashraf Salman, speaking at Al-Mal GTM conference in Cairo on Monday.

He revealed that Egypt plans to generate 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy and a similar amount of wind energy.

Salman said that the government will start with solar energy production as it delivers from 9 to 12 months faster than other sources of power generation.

Producing energy from wind takes one year and a half while natural gas takes from two to three years, according to the minister.
