Vestas Nets Order For Wind Farm In Italy

Vestas has received an order for 34 MW consisting of 17 units of the V100-2.0 MW turbine for the Palazzo San Gervasio wind farm in Basilicata, Italy.
The order has been placed by ERG Renew S.p.A (100% ERG), Italy’s largest wind energy producer, with an installed capacity of 1,062 MW in the country, and a total capacity of 1,232 MW throughout Europe.

The contract comprises installation and commissioning of the turbines together with a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system.

Delivery of the turbines for the wind power plant is expected to start during the second half of 2013 and the project is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.

We are proud to announce the signature for the first wind power plant to be installed in the Basilicata region with Vestas’ V100-2.0 MW wind turbines,” comments Juan Araluce, Chief Sales Officer, Vestas Wind Systems A/S, who continues, “We are also proud to provide our experience and quality in being a full-service partner to ERG Renew as we support their vision to further develop Italy’s wind energy sector.”

Further developing our relationship with ERG Renew, one of the key players in wind energy production in Italy, is part of our continuous efforts to be closer to our customers and provide them with solutions tailored to their needs,” states Rainer Karan, General Manager, Vestas Italia, who continued: “This confirms Vestas’ leadership position in the market, as well as our aim to continue being the main player in the country also with the newly introduced auction system.”

This wind power plant will produce approx. 97 GWh per year, which corresponds to an annual saving of almost 39,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, it will provide enough electricity to cover the residential electricity consumption of more than 85,000 people in Italy.

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ around 49,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by over 60 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.
