Humala opens first solar power plant in Peru

Peru’s President Ollanta Humala Tasso will arrive in southern Arequipa region to open the first solar power plant in the country that will generate 22 megawatts.

The opening ceremony will take place at 10:30 am at Pampa de La Joya, province of Arequipa.
At the event the launch of the Majes Photovoltaic Power Plant in the province of Caylloma will be announced.
The two solar power plants cover 105 hectares each one and feature 55,704 photovoltaic modules.
Both power plants, which will generate approximately 80 GWh per year, require an investment of US$165 million and will supply 200,000 people with electricity.
