Goldwind wins first wind power order in Thailand

The Theppana wind farm project, to be completed by third quarter of 2013, is Goldwind’s first wind energy in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (“Goldwind”) announces the signing of a wind turbine supply contract with Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (“EGCO Group”),Thailand´s first independent power producer, to provide three GW109/2500 low wind speed series Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive (PMDD) wind turbines and a SCADA system for its THEPPANA wind farm project.

The THEPPANA wind farm project, which will be completed by third quarter of 2013, is Goldwind’s first wind project in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

The wind energy project marks Goldwind’s second overseas project in Asia. Goldwind’s first overseas wind project in Asia is under construction in Pakistan. That project will use high temperature series PMDD turbines.

The THEPPANA wind farm project is located in Chaiyaphum province, in the northeast of Thailand, about 250 km from Bangkok. The local air density is rated at 1.137 kg per cubic meter. And the annual average maximum temperature reaches 40°C above and lowest of about 12°C.

Goldwind’sspeciallydesignedGW109/2500 low wind speed series PMDD turbines were selected to optimize power output based on the local environmental conditions.

The GW109/2500 turbine, with rotor diameter of 109 meters and rated power of2500 kilowatts, features a special design that was developed by Goldwind’s R&D team for IEC III class wind resource areas with annual average wind speed of 6.5m/s to 7.5 m/s.

“Thanks to our internationalization strategy, Goldwind has not only achieved significant milestones in established wind market such as the United States and Australia with large scale wind farm projects in operation, but has also expanded in emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa and Asia excluding China. Winning new orders from Asian countries such as Pakistan and Thailand reflects the fact that our products and services are gradually earning recognition from worldwide markets and international customers,” said Wang Haibo, Executive Director and Executive Vice President of Goldwind.

The THEPPANA wind farm project is EGCO Group’s first wind power project and our initial cooperation with Goldwind. Goldwind as the world second largest and China’s largest wind turbine manufacture, we fully trust their PMDD turbine products’ reliability and high efficiency. We hope that both sides can strengthen our mutually cooperative efforts and further develop the wind industry throughout Thailand and even jointly set our sights on the international market,” said Voravit Potisuk, Senior Executive Vice President – Business Development Domestic of EGCO Group.

As the world’s largest and most experienced manufacturer of PMDD wind turbines, Goldwind’s accumulated installed PMDD capacity now exceeds 10GW with projects in more than 18 provinces across China as well as 17 countries on six continents. Goldwind currently has received 18projects in the Americas with a total capacity of 300 MW, which makes its received total overseas project capacity reach over 500MW.
