Tamil Nadu proposes setting solar energy to generate 1000 MW of solar power

With an aim to generate 1000 MW of solar power in next five years, Tamil Nadu government has proposed to set up solar energy parks. The project is estimated to involve Rs 1,000 crore, said Industries minister P Thangamani.

Meanwhile, as per the proposal, the solar parks would be set across the area of 500 acres in the southern parts of the state.

The grants for the department for 2012-13 would be handled by Development Corporation (TIDCO), under public-private participation mode.

The proposal comes in line with ‘vision 2023’ mentioned by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and intended to produce 11000 MW of solar power in the next 11 years, photovoltaic and concentrating solar power.
