Public asked for input on proposed Arizona wind farm

Federal officials are asking for public comment on a proposed wind farm about 40 miles northwest of Kingman in western Arizona. The Bureau of Land Management opened the 45-day comment period on an environmental impact statement for the proposed wind farm on Friday.

BP Wind Energy is proposing to build up to 283 wind turbines on federal land to provide up to 500 megawatts of electricity. The company is proposing to use about 47,000 acres for the project but has offered two alternatives that would reduce the amount of public-land use by about 25 percent.
