Wind power produces jobs in Florida

Florida ranks ninth in the country with 2,000 to 3,000 jobs related to wind power, according to a recent report, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports.

The report came from the American Wind Energy Association , an advocate of wind power. Iowa and Texas topped the list; each had 6,000 to 7,000 jobs related to wind power. Five states derived 10 percent of their electricity from wind in 2011. Seven states have at least 4,000 wind jobs apiece.

The report says wind power generated as much as $20 billion a year in private investment over the past five years.

Florida was not among the top 10 for states planning new construction or the percentage of power derived from wind.
