SENER, nominated for the European Business Awards for the Gemasolar concentrated solar power project

SENER has been nominated for the European Business Awards for the Environment that the European Commission delivers, biennially, in recognition of the business work in four categories: good management practices, products, international cooperation activities and processes. SENER, nominated in the latter category, is the only Spanish company to receive this recognition, after a total of 156 nominations from 24 member countries of the European Union. The Spanish engineering company will compete in Process category, in which it has been nominated, along with two other candidate companies to get the final prize.

SENER has achieved this nomination thanks to the solar plant Gemasolar, the first plant in the world to incorporate the central tower receiver and thermal storage in molten salts technology and, where SENER has been responsible for all technological innovations and project engineering, as well as leading the construction, commissioning and commercial operation. In addition, SENER participates in the ownership of the plant through Torresol Energy (a company owned 60% by SENER).

This first recognition of the European Business Awards for the Environment comes after SENER having won the final award both in the Spanish section and in the Basque Section of these prestigious awards. The final decision of the European winners will be announced next May in Brussels.

In renewable energy, SENER is a leader in the global market for solar thermal energy, both for the development of state-of-the-art technology and for the number of pipeline projects. To date, SENER has participated in more than twenty solar thermal plants in Spain, USA and India, representing 1,500 MWe of installed capacity or under construction which represent a saving of 1,000,000 tons of CO2 per year.
